SEPTEMBER

 

WEDNESDAY-                                             "Job"              Job 1-2:10

GOD'S GOOD SERVANT

MORE TROUBLE COMES

 

GOALS: (1) To learn who Job was, when and where he lived, and how he was tested.

(2) To teach that possessions are gifts from God. Talk about Job's reaction to his losses.

(3) To stress that Satan uses every means that he can to turn us from God. We must serve God always, no matter what problems come our way.

( 4) To show that suffering is a part of life and that God will give us strength as we remain faithful to Him.

 

SUNDAY-                                          "Job"              Job2:11-4:8; 13; 16;42

THREE FRIENDS

FROM SUFFERING TO GLADNESS

 

GOALS: (1) To show that we must be strong and endure life's problems without losing

confidence in God's love and goodness.

(2) To teach that faith does not depend on having all the answers. We do not have to

understand everything.

(3) To stress that God blessed Job for patiently enduring his suffering. Also, show how

we must use the means that God has provided for escaping temptation, such as:

study, prayer, worship, fellowship, etc.

 

OCTOBER

SUNDAY-                                          "Jonah"                      Book of Jonah

 

GOALS: (1) To stress that God loves us and that we show our love to God by obeying Him.

We cannot run away from God.

(2) To talk about ways we can teach and encourage others to learn of God's Word, as Jonah did. Stress that the best gift anyone can give to another person i~ the chance to learn about God.

 

WEDNESDAY-                                 The Prophets

"Hosea and Amos" The Book of Hosea and Amos

 

GOALS: (I) To help the children understand what a prophet was.

(2) To talk about the love that God has for us and that we should love God and others as the Bible has instructed. We should always be willing to give others another chance when they have wronged us.

(3) To stress that we are to avoid evil and to try always to do good.

 

NOVEMBER

 

WEDNESDAY -                                "Isaiah "

TELLS OF GOD'S PROMISES Isaiah 2:2,3; 6; 7:14; 9:6; 53:5-11; 65:15

BRINGS GOOD NEWS TO THE KING Isaiah 36:1- 38:6

 

GOALS: (1) To teach some of Isaiah's prophecies concerning Jesus so that the children's faith in the Word of God might grow.

(2) To learn the prophecies of Isaiah concerning the "house" (the church) that God would build. Talk about the old house, the temple of Jerusalem. It was for the Jews (Israelites). God's new house is the church. It would not be a temple or a building. But it would be made up of people (Christians) from all over the world.

(3) To impress upon the children that to be a servant of God, as was Isaiah, is a blessed opportunity.

 

SUNDAY-                              "Hezekiah"                 II Kings 18-20:Il;liChron.32:1-21

"King Josiah" II Kings 22- 23:36; II Chron. 33-35

 

GOALS: (1) To help them to see the value of prayer. Show that a righteous man's prayers can cause God to change things. Stress that God always hears our prayers and does what is best for us.

(2) To help the children to see the results of keeping God's rules, and that we learn these commands or rules of God in the Bible only. Stress that the Bible is a guide for our life.

 

DECEMBER

 

WEDNESDAY-                     "Jeremiah And The FaIl of Jerusalem"

JEREMIAH WARNS GOD'S PEOPLE Jeremiah 1:1-8; 13

THE PEOPLE IGNORE JEREMIAH'S WARNINGS Jeremiah 36; 39; 40

 

GOALS: (1) To show God's punishment to the disobedient and His mercy and willingness to forgive when His people return to Him.

(2) To stress that God promises to care for those who listen to His Word and obey Him.

 

SUNDAY-                              "Daniel And His Three Friends"                    Daniel 1-3

DANIEL SAYS "NO"

THE DREAM

FRIENDS IN THE FIRE

 

GOALS: (I) To help the children develop a strong courage to do right, even in very difficult situations. We must say "no" to Satan's temptations.

(2) To show the importance of loyalty, obedience, and trust in God even when we don't understand.

(3) To impress upon the children the importance of having so strong a faith that we can face even the most trying ordeal with such bravery as that of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

 

JANUARY

 

SUNDAY-                              "Esther"                                  Esther 1 ~ 10

 

GOALS: (I) To teach the children to stand up for right even in difficult situations.

(2) To help the children understand that we should always look for opportunities to help others and do good.

(3) We must not try to "get even" (seek revenge) when someone mistreats us or does something we don't like.

(4) To show Esther's courage and bravery, trusting God to take care other.

 

WEDNESDAY                                   "Daniel"                      Daniel 4-9: 19

IN THE LION'S DEN

 

GOALS: (1) To learn the meaning and the importance of repentance.

(2) To help the children to realize that we should develop a desire to always follow the right example. God gave us a perfect example to follow, Jesus.

(3) To teach the importance of being a good example. Talk about the meaning of the word "influence." The king made a new law because of Daniel's influence of dedication and obedience to God.

(4) To help the children develop a desire to talk to God regularly.

 

FEBRUARY

 

WEDNESDAY-                     "Nehemiah, Rebuilding The Walls"                Nehemiah 1-13

 

GOALS: (1) To talk about the determination of Nehemiah and to teach the importance of doing everything we do, the very best that we can.

(2) To stress that we must build walls of obedience around us, to protect us from the temptations of Satan.

(3) To stress the importance of workers cooperating and working together without arguing, fighting, and criticizing.

 

SUNDAY-                  "Ezra, Rebuilding The Temple"                      Ezra 1-10:19

 

GOALS: (1) To stress that we should consider it an honor to come and worship God.

(2) To impress upon the children that we can overcome many problems, under great opposition, as long as we live for God.

(3) The Jews repented when Ezra taught God's Word. We must study and listen to God's Word and allow it to change our lives.

 

MARCH

 

SUNDAY-                  "Haggai Encourages God's People"              Haggai 1; 2:1-9

"Malachi" Malachi 3:1-12; 4:2

 

GOALS: (1) To emphasize that no matter how busy we are we should not neglect working for God.

(2) To prove our love for God by our actions, not by words only.

(3) To stress that Malachi had a message to move the people to repentance.

(4) To show that the prophets had hard times trying to obey God. God still wanted them to try, just as He wants us to try to always do our best for Him.

 

WEDNESDAY-                                 "The Bible"

 

GOALS: (I)To learn all the books of the Bible, its divisions, and other basic facts such as how many men wrote it, etc.

(2) To stress that everything we have studied up to this point has been from the Old Testament. If your children have memorized these, let them talk about stories they might remember from each book or what that book teaches us.

(3) To explain the divisions of the Old and New Testament. Also, talk about the four-hundred year silence between the Old and New Testaments.

(4) To emphasize that we live under the New Testament today, but that all of the Bible was given to us as an example that we might learn how to live as God wants us to.

 

APRIL

 

SUNDAY-                              "The Birth, Boyhood and Baptism of Jesus"

Luke 2:40-3:22

"John's Ministry" Matthew 3:1-17

 

GOALS: (1) To show how God's plan was fulfilled through the scriptures.

(2) To stress that God was first in the life of Christ. He should be first in our lives also.

(3) To show that John came as a child of promise. Talk about the prophecy and ministry of John.

 

WEDNESDAY-                     "Temptations Of Jesus"                      Isaiah 14:12-17,

Matt. 4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13

Luke 4:1-13

 

GOALS: (1) To teach that Jesus, like us, faced many temptations and we should follow his example in overcoming them.

(2) To impress upon the children that God is always there to help us say no to Satan's tricks.

 

MAY

 

SUNDAY-                              "Choosing the Apostles"                    Matt. 4:18-22,9:9-13,10:1-4

Mark 1:14-20,2:13-17,3:13-19

Luke 5:1-11,27-31,6:12-16

John 1:35-51

 

GOALS: (1) To stress that the apostles were self-sacrificing men who gave up everything to follow Jesus.

(2) To emphasize that we should trust Jesus because He is our Shepherd who will guide us and supply all our needs.

(3) To show that we, too, can teach others to follow Jesus. First, we must be willing to turn from wrong, do that which is right, and follow Jesus ourselves so that we may lead others to Him.

 

WEDNESDAY-                                 "Sermon On The Mount"                    Matthew 5-7

 

GOALS: (1) To emphasize that Jesus wants us to be spiritual lights shining on a darkened world.

(2) To help the children learn the Lord's Prayer and the Beatitudes.

(3) To impress upon the children the need for daily prayer to strengthen their faith.

 

JUNE

 

Miracles

SUNDAY --                                                    Water To Wine                        John 2:1-12

Jesus Teaches From a Boat Luke 5:1-26

Down Through The Roof

 

GOALS: (1) To explain the meaning of a miracle.

(2) To discuss how everyone needs Jesus to make them happy.

(3) To stress that bringing people to Jesus is not always easy, but it is always rewarding.

 

WEDNESDAY-                     "Stilling the Tempest"                Matt.8:18-27

"Feeding the 5,000" Matt. 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44

"Jesus Walks On The Water" Matt. 14:22-33,

GOALS: (1) To emphasize the power of God.

(2) To stress that we should be willing to share what we have with others.

(3) To show that we can always look to Jesus for safety no matter what the world throws our way.

 

JULY

GOALS: (1)To show that we should have faith in Jesus, especially during sickness.

(2) To emphasize that we should depend on Jesus when we are in trouble.

(3) To emphasize to the children that we should never let fear keep us from obeying the Gospel.

(4) To teach the children the plan of salvation.

 

WEDNESDAY-                                 "The Pool Of Bethesda"                        John 5:1-47

"The Raising Of Lazarus" John 11:1-44

 

GOALS: (1) To develop a compassion for those who are in need, both physically and spiritually.

(2) To show how Jesus exerted His great power over natural forces.

(3) To stress the caring qualities of Jesus.

 

AUGUST

 

WEDNESDAY --                               "The Transfiguration"                                    Matt. 17:1-13, Mark 9:2-13, Luke 9:28-36

 

GOALS: (1) To emphasize that Jesus was God's one and only Son.

(2) To show that Jesus is greater than anyone who has lived or ever will live.

 

SUNDAY-                                          "Blind Bartimaeus"                                John 9:1-41

"Healing Ten Lepers" Luke 17:11-19

 

GOALS: (1) To emphasize the senses that God gave us and how we can use them is a blessing to us.

(2) To stress that we should have compassion on those less fortunate than us.

(3) To show the importance of thanking God for all His gifts to us and for answering our prayers.
