WEDNESDAY- “Creation” Genesis 1:1 - 2:7; 20 GOALS: To impress upon the children how powerful and wonderful God is and we should be thankful to Him for His beautiful creations. Also, to show that God had a plan for us even in the very beginning. SUNDAY- “The First Home, The First Family” Genesis 2:8-4:26 GOALS: (1) Stress the importance of home and family and what each family member can do to help make a happy home. Discuss sibling rivalry. (2) To show that when we give in to temptation we will suffer the consequences, as Adam and Eve had to leave their beautiful home in the Garden. (3) Stress the importance of worshipping God as He wants. (4) To show how jealousy and the lack of self-control (when we are angry) can destroy our homes and us, as with Cain.
SUNDAY- “Enoch and Noah” Genesis 5:18-24, Heb. 11:5, Jude 14,15 Genesis 6-9, Heb. 11:7 GOALS: (1) To show God’s care to those who love Him and are obedient to Him. (2) To show how we can strive to walk with God by learning what He wants us to do, then obedience to His commandments. (3) To show that Noah’s great Faith caused him to obey without understanding and that he followed God’s instructions exactly. Stress that we are not to add to God’s instructions or leave out anything that He has told us to do.
WEDNESDAY- “Tower Of Babel” Genesis 11:1-9 “The Call Of Abram and Lot’s Choice” Gen. 11:27-32; 12, 13 GOALS: (1) To show that by confusing their language, God’s will was done which was for the people to “scatter and replenish the earth”. We must always choose God’s way rather than our own. (2) To stress unselfishness, kindness, and humility.
SUNDAY- “Abraham and Isaac” Genesis 15:2-6, Gen.16-22:19 GOALS: Stress the importance of: (1) Hospitality and kindness to guests. (2) Our willingness to sacrifice for God. Also, stress (3) The great faith of Abraham.
WEDNESDAY- “A Bride for Isaac” “Stories of Jacob” Genesis 24-35 GOALS: (1) To impress upon the children the importance of choosing the right mate. Stress the importance Abraham placed on it and also emphasize the great love Jacob had for Rachel. (2) To teach that we should always tell what is true. (3) Stress that God cares for us when we are sad. (4) To stress that honesty pleases God and to show the bad results of sins such as: dishonesty, deception, and lying. (5) Show the children that their behavior affects others in their family. Love, forgiveness, and reconciliation in the family brings happiness.
WEDNESDAY - “Joseph” Genesis 37-45 GOALS: (1) To teach the children that we are to always treat others kindly and not return evil for evil. Show that even when we are hurt by others, we must still love and obey God, as Joseph did. (2) To show where hate, anger, and jealousy can lead. (3) To show Joseph’s faithfulness to God through hardship and that God was always with him. (4) To stress Joseph’s forgiving attitude toward his brothers and to show that we can learn from Joseph’s example of how to treat those who have mistreated us. SUNDAY- “Baby Moses” Exodus 1:15 - 2:10 “Moses and the Burning Bush” Exodus 3 - 4:17 GOALS: (1) Show that we are to obey the laws of the land, unless they conflict with God’s law. If that’s the case, we obey God rather than man. (2) To show how God used Miriam to keep Moses safe. (3) Talk about Moses’ reverence in God’s presence. Then stress the importance of our reverence in worship and how we should show respect and honor God. (4) Also, we want to teach them that we must allow God to use us to accomplish His purpose and not make excuses.
SUNDAY- “Moses” and The Ten Plagues Exodus 5:12 - 30 The Parting of the Red Sea Exodus 12:31 - 15:21 The Wanderings in the Wilderness Exodus 15 - 18 GOALS: To show God’s: (1) Greatness and His power over nature. (2) Guidance then, and now (through the scriptures). (3) Goodness to provide all His children’s needs. Also stress- (4) The importance of learning to be satisfied with what we have and not complaining.
WEDNESDAY- “Moses” and The Ten Commandments Exodus 19 - 34 The Tabernacle Exodus 25:1 - 9; 34 - 40
GOALS: (1) Stress the importance of obedience to God’s rules and His sadness (and anger) when we disobey. (2) To learn from the Israelites the lesson of giving for something important. (3) To show the difference of worship in the tabernacle and our worship today. (4) To learn the 10 Commandments and how (or if) they apply to us today and also to learn the parts and the articles of the Tabernacle.
FEBRUARY (Review first Wednesday) SUNDAY- “Moses’ Last Days” “Joshua - The New Leader” “Journey to Kadesh-Barnea” Numbers 10:11-12:15 “Joshua and Caleb”(The Twelve Spies) Num.13 - 14 Deut. 1: 19-46 “Balaam and the Donkey” Numbers 22 “Moses and The Promised Land” - “Joshua, The New Leader” Deut. 31:1 - 8,14 - 23, 33:1-34:8, Joshua 1 GOALS: (1) To show that when trusting and obeying God, even the minority wins. (2) To stress that we must not resist God’s way, we must follow. (3) Show how we must be courageous, trust God, and submit to His word.
WEDNESDAY- “Joshua” “The Fall of Jericho” Joshua 6 “Achan’s Sin” Joshua 7 “The Sun Stands Still” Joshua 10, 11 “Joshua’s Last Days” Joshua 23, 24 GOALS: (1) Show that God will do great things for us when we obey. Nothing is too difficult. (2) To teach that even our most private sins are known by God. (3) Stress the power of prayer. (4) Show that we must choose to follow God and remain faithful as Joshua did.
The Period Of The Judges WEDNESDAY- “Othniel, Ehud, and Shamgar” Judges 3 “Deborah” Judges 4, 5 “Gideon” Judges 6 - 8
GOALS: (1) To show that we must serve God always, not just when we need His help - as Israel did again and again. (2) To show that we should be a good example as Deborah. Also, talk about the woman’s role in the church. (3) To show that when we listen to God, trust Him, and do what He says, He will be with us as He was with Gideon.
SUNDAY- “Samson” Strong Or Weak? Judges 13-16 “Ruth” Ruth 1-4
GOALS: (1) To tell how God used Samson and gave him great strength. Stress that we must depend on God for our inner strength and not let others influence us to do wrong, as Samson did. (2) To show that Naomi (her life and her influence) was good. Stress that we are always an example for good or bad. (3) To learn from Ruth that we should…follow good, show our love, and have kindness in our lives. SUNDAY “Eli, Hannah, and Samuel” I Sam. 1-3 “The Boy Samuel” GOALS: (1) To emphasize that God hears our prayer. (2) To stress the importance of keeping promises. (3) To learn about Samuel’s spiritual and physical growth. Stress that he was quick to obey.
WEDNESDAY- “Samuel as Judge” I Sam. 4-15 “The Philistines Capture the Ark” “Samuel Anoints Saul King” “Samuel Rebukes Saul”
GOALS: (1) To show how God helps us when we have a special work to do. (2) To show that being reverent during worship and treating the Bible as a precious gift are ways we can show respect to God. (3) To help them realize that when we try to be like, “everybody else” it usually leads to trouble. (4) To stress that we must choose God’s way, not our own.
WEDNESDAY- “Young David” I Samuel 16, 17 “David and the Sheep” “Choosing a King” “The King’s Harpist” “David and The Giant” GOALS: (1) To teach that we should look at the inner person rather than the outward appearance. (2) To show that we, like David, should show responsibility when called upon. (3) To show that we can trust God to help us overcome evil.
SUNDAY- “David” I Sam.18 - II Sam. 2; II Sam.6:1-11 “And Jonathan” “The King” “Uzzah” GOALS: (1) To stress the importance of being a devoted friend. (2) To learn to be kind to everyone--even those who are unkind to us. Define jealousy. (3) To understand what it means to have compassion for others. (4) To show God’s great love for David, and the great example he became. (5) To understand that we’re to obey God’s rules exactly.
SUNDAY- “Solomon” I Kings 1:17-9:28, II Chron. 3 - 7 “Crowned King” “The Wise King” “Building the Temple” GOALS: (1) To show that we, like Solomon, should desire an understanding heart. (2) Emphasize putting God first and obeying authority. (3) To show that we should pray for wisdom and strive for knowledge. (4) To show that the temple was built for one purpose-- to honor God, and we should have the same purpose today.
WEDNESDAY “Solomon’s Reign and the Queen of Sheba” I Kings 10-12:20; 14:19, 20 “Solomon’s Last Days” “Divided Kingdom” “Jeroboam Becomes King GOALS: (1) (1) To show that even Solomon’s wisdom didn’t protect him from the evil influence of bad companionship. (2) To stress that God expects obedience from everyone, even rulers.
JULY (Review first Wednesday)
SUNDAY- “Elijah” I Kings 17 - 18 “God Provides for Elijah” “God Raises the Widow’s Son” “God Sends Fire and Rain” GOALS: (1) To emphasize Gods’ protection when we obey Him. (2) To stress that we must believe in prayer. (3) To show that in order to please God we must serve Him completely.
WEDNESDAY- “Elijah Becomes Discouraged” I Kings 19 - II Kings 2:15 “Naboth’s Vineyard” “Elijah Goes to Heaven” GOALS: (1) To show that when we’re discouraged we need to look to God for help. (2) To show that God knows our needs better than we do. (3) To stress that Heaven will be our home if we are obedient.
WEDNESDAY- “Elisha” II Kings 4:8 - 5:27 “Elisha at Shunem” “Naaman’s Leprosy” “Gehazi’s Sin” GOALS: (1) To emphasize that we repay kindness with kindness. (2) To show the young girl’s faith. (3) Stress that God doesn’t require something “great” of us in order to satisfy His will. (4) To talk about the dangers of greed and covetousness. Show that one sin usually leads to another.
SUNDAY- “Joash” II Kings 11-13:10, II Chron.23 GOAL: (1) To emphasize that even a child can serve God and be an example. |
